Events

The SYLA was set up in 1974 to educate its members and encourage a culture of professional development and learning amongst young lawyers in Scotland. Since then, the association have broadened its aims to educate, represent and entertain our members. 

Educate
We run approximately 30 free CPD events throughout the year including our popular @So you want to be" series which gives insight into different legal careers and our "Beyond the basics" series which provides relevant training on particular areas of the law. 

In addition we host an annual Civil Day Conference and Criminal Day Conference. 

Represent
We run annual surveys on topics affecting the junior end of our profession. Recent topics have included retention of young lawyers in Scotland, court dress and early admission. Find out more under our representation tab. 

Entertain
We run several social events throughout the year including our launch party, Christmas fundraiser and Spring Ball. We aim to give young lawyers opportunities for networking and we encourage socialising for member's wellbeing.
