Welcome to the Scottish Young Lawyers' Association
The Scottish Young Lawyers' Association (SYLA) is a non-profit organisation, which educates, entertains and represents young lawyers' in Scotland.
2014 has been a special year for SYLA. The first half of the year saw the Association host the European Young Bar Association's Spring Conference in Edinburgh, drawing young lawyers from across to the globe to meet in our capital city. We also celebrated our 40th anniversary in style with members, past and present, at our SYLA Birthday Party in Glasgow.
The next half of 2014 and into 2015 is set to be another eventful period for SYLA as we continue with our So you want to be, Beyond the Basics and Spotlight on... event series, together with the return of the Criminal Day Conference, a new Civil Day Conference for 2015, Women in Law, and of course, the Spring Ball.
As young lawyers return from the summer break, Scotland faces its big question on 18 September 2014. Whatever the result of the referendum, a significant period of constitutional change awaits Scotland and its young lawyers continue to be engaged in this. With the eyes of the world on the debate, it is certainly an interesting time to be a young lawyer in Scotland.
Our next event of session 2014/2015 takes place on 24 September 2014, with a panel of speakers discussing what lies ahead for law reform, after the referendum (whatever its result) - full details available here. The full programme for the year ahead will be launched at the end of this month at our traditional end of summer get-together for members on Friday 26 September 2014 - further details available here.
In the meantime, you can meet the new SYLA committee for this year here - we are all looking forward to seeing you at an event soon!
