The Beyond the Basics seminar series continues in the capital of the Highlands with a host of local experts providing an update on Rural Property. Ross Simpson, Associate with Murray Beith Murray, will provide an update on fisheries and forestry; Richard Wilson, solicitor at Morton Fraser, will be speaking about The Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Act 2011 and Kenneth Mackay, Partner at Morton Fraser, will chair the event. 17 May: Beyond the basics: Career Progression, Sponsored by Lexical, Edinburgh

Next in our series of CPD events specifically for 3-10 years PQE solicitors, we welcome a panel of professionals to advise our members on progressing their career to new heights.  Sarah Baxter of Lexical, will use her years of experience with her bespoke legal recruitment company to advise members on how to make themselves attractive candidates, how to improve your CV and perform at interview.  Steven Raeburn, editor and owner of The Firm Magazine, will advise on how to create a business profile online and use social media to advance your career.  Wesleyan for Lawyers will provide financial advice for lawyers at this stage in their careers along with advice on investing in a partnership.  There will also be speakers from private law firms and in-house legal teams to provide tips on business development, supervising younger colleagues and setting yourself apart from your peers to achieve promotion.

25 May: Annual Conference and AGM, Edinburgh

The SYLA's annual conference will be held in Edinburgh on Friday 25 May 2012 in Edinburgh.  This will be a full day conference open aimed at all young members with a programme of lectures covering soft skills, career progression and substantive law.  Full details will be announced soon, including speakers, venue and delegate rate.  The annual conference will be followed by the Annual General Meeting of the SYLA, where the President shall report to the members on the association's activities of the past year.  Elections for the SYLA committee for 2012/13 shall be held at the AGM. For more details regarding the AGM and election of committee members please refer to our Constitution.

The conference and AGM shall be followed by a social event for all members.
