Football - Edinburgh

The Edinburgh SYLA Football Team...The story so far:

John Pope is our man in Edinburgh:

SYLA football was born over a beer in late summer 2007... and within 8 weeks a motley crew of LLB and diploma students, trainees and NQs pulled on the (now) hallowed purple shirt of the SYLA Edinburgh 5s team for the first time.

Despite a valiant defeat in their first competition at the Firm 5s, the SYLA rose to win the 2007 Sighthill legal 5s. Stirring stuff.

Spotting a gap in the market, the SYLA set up a 5 a side league for the law firms of our fair capital. The league attracted attention from across both public and private sector with over 20 teams signing up for the two-tier league.

Spurred on by the success of the 5s team, a full 11s team evolved under the unwavering stewardship of Graham Donnelly. Leading the team through moments of controversy, adversity, hilarity and injury (often all at the same time) Donnelly guided the SYLA team to a summer league victory on their debut season.

So an all-conquering year for SYLA football you may think - well there is more my friend.  As events unfolded on the East coast - our footballing brethren in Strathclyde were assembling behind mystical captain. Some know him as Simba, some as the weegie Jose Mourinho, all we know is he has got a cracking team together on the West coast competing in the illustrious Glasgow Unity League.  Read more about the Glasgow team.

A big thanks to Thorley Stephenson for getting behind the Edinburgh team and sponsoring our stunning purple kits....and also to Ellis Fairbank and David Gannon for helping get the Glasgow team up and running.
