The SYLA was set up in 1974 to educate its members and encourage a culture of professional development and learning amongst young lawyers in Scotland. Since then, the SYLA has run a successful and popular range of training events across the country tailored towards young lawyers, and education remains one of our key aims. This was recognised in 2012, with the SYLA awarded “Legal Training Provider of the Year” at the Scott & Co Legal Awards, and again in 2015 when the SYLA were a finalist in the "Training Provider of the Year" category.
The SYLA run popular on-going series of events throughout the year, including “So you want to be a lawyer”, geared at students, trainees and newly qualified lawyers interested in a particular area of practice, along with our “Beyond the Basics” series, tailored to qualified lawyers to advance their
skills and deepen their specialist knowledge. The SYLA also organise a series of annual events throughout the year, including our popular Annual Lecture address, our Criminal Day Conference, our Civil Day Conference, the SYLA Debate, our Writing Competition, and our Annual Conference.
If you have an idea for an education event, or would like to run a seminar with the SYLA, please contact us.
